ABSTRACT:

This dissertation aims to evaluate the use of mobile and virtual social networks, for educational purposes, in stimulating and creating favorable situations for learning and knowledge building. Along those lines, this research has a qualitative character and a case study, since the object of study is in real life and cannot be investigated outside its context and very complex for experiments. Part of the research was conducted in a public school of the state network of Jataí-GO city and the treatment of data in a posteriori categories, which are collaboration and cooperation in social networks, interaction and motivation in social networks, teaching and learning at anytime and anywhere, some pedagogical mishaps, based on Bardin's ideas of category building analysis. Data collection used two mixed questionnaires, logbook, spontaneous interview, document analysis of messages in WhatsApp and Facebook applications. The research demonstrated the potential of TICs in teaching and learning, a mobilization of the participating students, with regard to collaboration and cooperation in daily activities related to school, perceived in group management, information exchange and questions about activities and school daily life. Changes in the interaction and motivation of the students were noticed because, during the activities, the students could be motivated to make efforts in their work and evaluations when they realized that social networks would be a form of visibility of their work. The activities developed were able to modify the relations between students and teacher, bringing them closer, offering greater security to the student to deal with school subjects. In the pedagogical activities, the cell phone was a facilitator of the teacher's work, either in the classroom or outside it, regarding the direct contact with students, working in doubts shifts, sending activities and information. Using the cellphone provided students the opportunity to develop critical thinking about content available on the Internet through research and production of content for sending on social networks. The activities developed in the Facebook application were responsible for encouraging students to strive in their school activities, and became a means of disseminating the work of students. Some mishaps were overcome in this research, such as the difficulty of relationship between participants, understanding of the rules, difficulties in organizing TICs work and inadequate infrastructure. Even so, the cellphone and social networks are alternatives for the creation of new forms of knowledge production, or in the understanding of the teaching and learning process, to assist in the critical development, the student's learning and protagonism, in activities that stimulate the information on the Internet and turn it into knowledge.
