ABSTRACT:
The general objective of this work was to analyze the approach of Citizenship and Scientific Literacy in contents of thermochemistry in Chemistry textbooks of the National Textbook Program (PNLD), from 2008 to 2018. This research had as a premise a qualitative methodological approach, such as: case study. For data collection, the bibliographic and documentary analyzes were used; the data treatment in categories occurred a posteriori. The categories found were: historical perspective of Science; scientific literacy; Environmental citizenship education and the multicultural approach. The results were obtained by observing the data extracted from the textbooks. It was possible to infer that historical content is very superficially approached; In most books, small boxes with images of scientists, very few historical texts, and lack of activities to rescue the contents are intended. In environmental matters, the works of PNLD 2008 were not approached with such emphasis; we have that there was a predominance of conservative environmental education. In this way, the problems are presented in a synthetic and partial way. In 2012, 2015 and 2018 PNLD books, the approach was further intensified; More texts, questions and activities were found to help promote sustainable development. In the literacy category, the predominance of texts written by the textbook production agents and few texts from varied textual sources and genres were examined. The multicultural category needs to be further explored, as there was a predominance of images of white men and, on the other hand, few of black men, very few images of women and absence of Indians. There is still a need for more punctual discussions that better highlight the genres in their different pluralities, as it is a necessity that issues can be defended in all areas. Thus, the observations collected were compared to the authors cited as bibliographic support, indicating that, despite the advances in some chemistry books throughout the PNLD, the formation for citizenship is not yet contemplated.
