Abstract:

Understanding the knowlegde meaning in the works published within the Thematic Working Group (GTT) Epistemology, published in the proceedings of the Brazilian Congress of Sport Sciences (CONBRACE) from 2005 to 2015, was the aim of this work. Therefore, it was based on: the social production mode and its contradictions, besides possible mediations and determinations on the production of society, as theoretical elements that support the understanding of the production of knowledge; the historical development of thought in society, especially regarding the transformations of the material basis of existence for the development of theory as a universal system of science; the theoretical-epistemological perspectives present in the works within a specified time frame, and the conceptions that align the tendency to incorporate theoretical and epistemological bases linked to the so-called “theoretical pluralism”. Regarding the methodological procedures, it was a bibliographic/documentary research of an epistemological-critical nature, as it aimed to identify and critically analyze the production of knowledge. Through an exploratory study all the papers presented in this GTT in the specified period were surveyed. Regardless of the distinction of the form of submission, both papers from oral communications and posters published in the proceedings were analyzed, totaling 160 papers, of which 59 (36.9%) were classified in theoretical approaches that do not substantiate the truth. based on the precepts of modern reason (in which science and philosophy interact through critical theory in the pursuit of understanding the real). It was decided to group these theoretical approaches into the class understood as “theoretical pluralism”, gathering: hermeneutics; poststructuralist and genetic structuralism; pragmatism and neopragmatism; cultural approach; symbolic or civilization theory; biological-cultural approach; and romantic. As a result, it was observed that the production of knowledge in Physical Education and Sport Sciences has closed the eyes to the contradictions of society, since there is a tendency in the works to pulverize the interests, values ​​and beliefs of society as that prioritize the understanding of the different cultural contexts, and second the determinants that emerge from the concrete reality. The contribution of this research was to offer elements for understanding the dynamic process of knowledge production and society, as well as new elements for understanding the conceptions and the meaning of this knowledge in the scientific production in Physical Education. However, it's expected that the understanding of the production of knowledge meaning in Physical Education constitutes, in the field of possibilities, a form of resistance to the ideology of instrumental rationality in the area, and allows to make notes about the influence of this knowledge on production and reproduction of culture, in order to make explicit the production mode of society that insists on preserving dehumanization relations.
